Enjoy Labor Day festivities aroudn town!!!

Hey, what are you doing for Labor Day?

For most of us, we will spend Monday relaxing and enjoying a day off from work.  But we shouldn’t spend the entire time indoors; instead, we should go out and be entertained by exciting events set up for the day!  As a matter of fact, you can start today! Here’s a few Chicago events to explore this holiday weekend:

Chicago Bears Preseason Game vs. Cleveland Browns – Thursday
This will be the last preseason game of the year and will take place today! If you didn’t get tickets to attend, check out the game downtown at a local sports bar, like ESPN Zone

North Coast Music Festival

Come to Union Park this weekend and jam to a mix of hip/hop,  jam and indie rock.  And some of my favorite artists will headline the show (Nas, Lupe Fiasco, De La Soul… the list goes on!).

Arlington Park – Friday through Monday Special Events
It doesn’t matter what day you go out to the Arlington Racetrack, you’ll have a ball!  There are plenty of events scheduled for the holiday weekend! Check out the list below:

  • Friday – Miller Lite Party in the Park
  • Saturday – Breakfast at Arlington, Handicapping Challenge, Taste of Summer Festival, Labor Day Turf Showcase
  • Sunday – Family Day
  • Monday – Labor Day Turf Showcase

Have a safe Labor Day weekend!!!

There's always a party at the Park!

This is the last week for WTMX’s Party in the Park!

Make plans to come out this Thursday (Sept. 2) to watch Lisa McClowry Band and Chris Buerhle rock the stage!  The show is from 4-6:30 p.m.  outside at The Park Grill Restaurant on the Plaza at Millennium Park.

Bring your friends and enjoy an afternoon full of fun and relaxation.  I went out there last week and saw 56 Hope Road and Josh Makeshift Prodigy perform.  Both of them had a GREAT performance.

It’ll be fun! And the best thing is the fact that The Communities of Ascot Glen isn’t too far from Millennium Park!

Come out and jam at the Shedd Aquarium this week after work!  This will be my first time going, so I’m hoping to see many Ascot Glen residents out there! If you’ve never partied in the aquatic world, here’s a taste:

Hang out with some real party animals at Jazzin’ at the Shedd. This Chicago tradition combines some of the area’s best bands, the city’s breathtaking fireworks and an unrivaled array of aquatic animals from around the world. Add light refreshments and drinks, and you’ve got an unbeatable summer evening of fun. ~ Shedd Aquarium

Next week will be the last to experience this exciting event!  And I hear that the fireworks are beautiful!  Most of the galleries are open until 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Come out and enjoy!!!!

Curso de Instructor de Pilates

Sign up for fitness classes near you!

Want to find a way to stretch those muscles to the max? Why not take yoga or Pilates?  Classes are offered in Willowbrook! Isn’t that great? Now you don’t have to drive into the city for these fit regimens.

Train with equipment at  Pilates Body, Inc.  In addition to Pilates, they also offer personal trainers! The classes will tone your muscles and help you burn calories through modern exercises with a different approach, one that is less strenuous.

In addition to working out at Ascot Glen’s fitness center, you can step it up  a notch by taking yoga classes at Willowbrook Village Hall. This will increase your inner strength and flexibility!

Enjoy!

Beat the HEAT this summer!

Well you probably can’t “beat the heat” entirely, but there are some things  you can do to eliminate the pore “water machine!”

  • Try some clinical or prescribed anti-perspirant.  It’s sort of like an extra strength deodorant.  It’ll eliminate those spots under your arms! You can probably check your local pharmacy for more information about where to get it from.
  • Carry a water bottle with you at ALL TIMES!!! Whether you’re planning to spend more time on the outside or inside, it’s always best to keep a water bottle near you, so you won’t get dehydrated!
  • Try the cooler materials.  Silk and satin aren’t the best materials for the summer.  Go for lighter cottons!

The first tip came from realsimple.com; the other two were my personal tips!!! And be sure to cool off in the pool at our Pool Party in a few days!!!!

Stay cool!

Image representing Android as depicted in Crun...

Google or Apple?

The iPhone isn’t the only talk around town.

It appears that the Android phone has outsold the iPhone in the first half of 2010! This is surprising to me because, well…. let’s look at the stats.

Although the Android phone has been the latest buzz, it still remains that 6 out of 10 of my friends own iPhones, 3 have a Blackberry and one has a “not-so-smart” phone (just a regular).

And when the new iPhone came out, one of my co-workers was one 0f hundreds who got up at 5:00 in the morning to stand in line for the “magnificent” creation.

But you never heard about people standing in line for the Android, did you? Nonetheless, it sold 4 percent more phones than Apple.

Pretty interesting, huh?

So let’s take a vote, how many Ascot Glen residents own iPhones? Android?

It’s a close race.
